Q: What is a Listserve?
A: A Listserve is powerful Internet tool
that allows people to communicate efficiently and economically via
e-mail. Once subscribed to a Listserve, you can exchange ideas, ask
questions and discuss issues with a large group of people.
Q: Do I need special software or training
to participate with the Director's Roundtable Listserve?
A: No. You must
know how to send and receive e-mail messages. To access the archives, you need a web browser. You must have access
to the Internet.
Q: Who is eligible to join the Director's
Roundtable Listserve?
A: To subscribe to
the Director's Roundtable Listserve, you must be a member of the Director's
Roundtable. If you would like to learn more about the Director's Roundtable,
contact Cheri Hildreth

Q: How do I subscribe to the Director's
Roundtable Listserve?
A: Send an e-mail
to listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the BODY of the
e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE (without quotes): "SUBSCRIBE ROUNDERS
John Doe"
Note: Use your full name in place of 'John Doe'.
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail (no footers, nothing

Intermediate Questions -
For Current Listserve Subscribers
Q: How do I send a message to the list?
A: Send an e-mail
to rounders@uab.edu
This is called "sending mail to the list,"
because you send mail to a single address and the Listserve makes
copies for all the people who have subscribed.
Q: How do I unsubscribe?
A: Send an e-mail to
listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the BODY of the
e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE (without quotes): "SIGNOFF ROUNDERS"
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail
(no footers, nothing in the subject line, etc...). For an example

Q: When I send a message to the list will I receive
a copy of my message automatically?
A: No. (read the question
below to learn how to change this).
Q: How can I be sure my message was distributed?
A: Send an e-mail to
listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the BODY of the
e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE (without quotes): "SET ROUNDERS
REPRO"
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail

This command will send you a copy of your own message
so that you can see the message was distributed.
Q: How can I access the available archive files online?
A: The full archives of the Rounders listserv are now available through an easy to use web-based interface. Access the archives by going to https://listserv.uab.edu/cgi-bin/wa?REPORT&z=4.
This site requires your e-mail address and a password, so the first step for a new user is to click on the words get a new LISTSERV password and follow the instructions.
Then you can log in and take advantage of the web interface for Rounders. Write down your password so you don't forget.

Advanced Questions - For
Experience Listserve Subscribers. If you are comfortable sending commands
to the listserve and want to use its more advanced features, these FAQs
are for you.
Q: Can I see who is subsrcribed to this list?
A: Yes. Send an e-mail to listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the
BODY of the e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE (without quotes): "REVIEW
ROUNDERS "
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail
(no footers, nothing in the subject line, etc...).
Q: Is there access to the Archive through the listserv?
A: Yes. Contributions
to this list are automatically archived.
You may send an e-mail to
listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the BODY of the
e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE (without quotes): "INDEX ROUNDERS"
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail
(no footers, nothing in the subject line, etc...).
Q: How do I use the archive files? They look like
gibberish.
A: They certainly
do, which is why we recommend the web-based interface. In fact, the archive files will look something like this:

You are looking at 4 different archive files(above).
You'll notice that each archive file has a log number associated with
it. For example the first archive file has the log number LOG0101.
If you wanted to order this file Send
an e-mail to listserv@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu
Include the following text in the BODY of the e-mail, NOT THE SUBJECT
LINE (without quotes): "GET ROUNDERS LOG0101"
Make sure no other text is included in the e-mail (no footers, nothing
in the subject line, etc...).
Please note that each archive file has a date associated
it. This information may be useful if you are looking for archived
messages that were contributed during a specific time period.
